A Mid Century Chinese musical jewelry box in black lacquered wood and elaborate engraved brass trim. Soapstone carvings of a bird in flight approaching a flowered branch decorate the top. The box measures 7 by 9-1/2 inches and is 3-1/4" high. The interior is lined in golden yellow satin with a full mirror in the lid. A covered corner compartment conceals the musical movement, which plays Lara's theme (Somewhere My Love). The music plays well.
The carved brass Asian padlock did not come with a key. I had to remove some of the tiny brass nails on the top latch base to open the jewelry box. It now opens by simply lifting the lid, but replacement locks and latches are easily found online, or perhaps you have a key for the lock. The finish and interior are in good condition with very little wear other than a couple of small verdigris spots to two of the brass corners (first photo, left side of box).
