Three pieces of English mottoware pottery were produced in or near the town of Torquay in Devon, England by a number of local potteries from the 1800s until the 1960s, often for the tourist trade. These three small pieces all have a cottage and trees scene. All are marked on the bottoms, but I can only make out Made in England.
The 2-1/4 inch miniature bean pot style vase (or maybe it's a toothpick holder) is the only piece without a sgraffito saying or motto. It's also the only pristine piece with no damage. The 3 inch egg cup is engraved "New laid" on the back. It has a small glaze chip on the interior rim.
The chamberstick candle holder is 5-1/4" long by just over 2-1/2" high at the handle. The rim of the center holder is chipped. The motto reads "Snore and you sleep alone". Price reflects condition.
