I'm almost certain this Mid Century Modern ceramic wall plate was an early piece or prototype from either Marc Bellaire or Sascha Brastoff, or done by someone who was amazingly good at imitating their unique style (Bellaire was employed by Brastoff before branching out on his own). There are numerous different ashtrays out there with this same dancing twin Harlequins decoration, all attributed to one or the other, but none signed.
The 11 inch plate has an irregular scalloped border with sponged gold. The airbrushed background is speckled off-white and black with a pale purple halo below the border. The slender masked dancers are lavishly decorated in gold with accents of purple and turquoise. There are two or three craze lines to the glossy glaze, but no chips or damage.
