This attractive scrolls and flowers carved effect wood composition smoking set was by Syroco in the 1930s. The finish is an unusual golden honey blond, rather than the typical brown shades more often seen in Syroco products. The composition material is unique too - it's a combination of wood pulp, resin, and plaster, giving the pieces the weight and feel of ceramic.
The roomy covered cigarette box is 6-3/4 by 4-3/4 inches at the base and about 2 inches high. The two arrowhead or triangular shape ashtrays are 5 inches diameter. It's possible they once had glass saucer inserts, as there are no signs of scorch, burn, or ash marks. In fact the entire set is spotlessly clean with no stains or damage. The foil label on the bottom of the box is faded but reads "Made in U.S.A Syroco Wood Syracuse N.Y.".
