This circa 1930 yellow ware shoulder bowl was made by the Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company. It has a 1-1/8 inch piecrust shoulder at the rim and a square base with embossed draping at the lower corners. Below the shoulder are pink and blue slip bands or rings. Several sizes of this style bowl were made - this is one of the larger sizes at 9-5/8 inches diameter by 5-1/2 inches high. It's in really good condition for this type of utilitarian kitchen bowl which were always made with flaws. The interior has one popped bubble. The sides have a couple of horizontal pre-firing scratches to the clay (these are not cracks). There are no hairlines or cracks, and no chips other than the few pinpoint fleabites at the rim. The underside is marked USA.
