This early 1900s antique woodburned handkerchief box was made from a pyrography kit from the Flemish Art Company of New York. I'm selling it exactly as purchased from an Idaho estate, filled with seven vintage ladies' hankies - probably none as old as the box however.
The 6-1/4 inch hinged square box has tinted red poinsettia flowers, yellow (faded from the original green) leaves, and the word Handkerchiefs in diagonal monogram style lettering. The uncolored image is repeated on the lid interior. The box is in excellent condition with no damage and only very minimal, age appropriate wear.
The hankies include a colorful all-over floral spray signed Collette, two identical scalloped white linen hankies with cutout white-on-white embroidery at one corner, a still-starched white-on-white semi-sheer hankie with lily of the valley flowers, pale green linen with variegated pink-salmon crochet edging, lace inset sheer cotton batiste with original paper label, and a hand embroidered silk hankie - this one is older than the others. Some need to be laundered, preferably hand washed. None have any holes or tears.
