This lovely and large finished needlepoint wall tapestry depicts an elegant 19th century lady standing outdoors next to an architectural column. She wears a low cut green and pink ruffled dress with feathered green hat, and holds a feather fan. The face, neck and hands are worked in tiny petit point. Everything else is done in varied horizontal long stitches, giving the tapestry a light, airy appearance. The stitched design is 17-1/2 by 25 inches. The canvas itself measures 23 by 32 inches with plenty of framing room.
The stitch work is very well done with no snags, loose threads, or bunching. The canvas is clean with no stains, though it does have a faint, musty cedar chest odor. The large size necessitated my photographing it draped over my sofa due to lack of well lighted white wall space. The canvas is not stretched out and is properly squared. It is part of an estate purchase of more than 40 Mid Century European needlepoint canvases and is the only fully finished one in the collection.
