Three plates, two teacups, a vegetable serving bowl, and a lid are what remains of this vintage hand painted Oriental scenic porcelain china dinnerware set. The scene on each gold-trimmed piece depicts a grassy, pine tree covered mountainside with three cottages. Below, a junk ship sails in the sea, in the far distance are snow capped mountain peaks.
The oval serving or vegetable bowl is 10-3/8 by 7-1/4 by 2-3/8 inches deep. The three plates are 6-1/4 inches diameter, the cups are almost 4" diameter across the rims by 2-3/8" high. The lid appears to be from a sugar bowl, 4-1/8" diameter. The porcelain is very nice quality with a see-through translucence when held to the light. All pieces are marked with two presumably Japanese characters in red. Everything is in excellent condition with no damage. Based on the style and shape of the bowl, I'm guessing the set dates to the 1930s, possibly 1940s.
