This type of vintage Japanese lacquered stacking box is often called a Bento or food box, but they can just as easily be used to store jewelry, makeup, sewing supplies, or other items. It has three two-inch deep layers and a lid or cover, with four legs on the lower box. It's lacquered hard plastic, bright brick red on the inside, with an intricate flowering tree of life design on the lid and flowering trees on all four sides in gold, red, and white on black. The underside has a simple foil Made in Japan label and likely dates to the Mid Century. The box is 8 inches square by 7 inches high and is in excellent condition with no chips, scratches, or damage.
