Designed by Ruth Gerth in 1935 for Chase Copper & Brass Company, this Art Deco copper and brass handled double dish was for nuts or mints. It's the first of three variations, the only one with the brass baby whale at the center. I'm wondering if it was originally meant to double as an ashtray - the grooved open mouth of the whale seems particularly suited to hold a cigarette.
Each solid copper bowl is 4 inches diameter, as is the ribbed brass loop handle. Total length is just over 8-1/2 inches, height to the top of the ring handle is 4-1/2 inches. The bowls have original copper patina - you can polish if you like. No dents, dings, or scratches.
