A matched set of old fashioned oval needlepoint pictures worked in wool on canvas. One depicts an early Colonial or Renaissance era woman seated in a garden and playing a lute or mandolin, a swan listens at her feet. The other is a similarly dressed man in a similar garden setting, his dog at his side. Both the man and woman have their faces and arms worked in tiny petit point stitches, allowing for finer detail of the facial features. The canvases have pinkish-taupe backgrounds and are entirely stitched by hand, they are not fill-in-the-background pre-worked canvases.
The very nice gilt and cream gesso-over composition frames are 12 inches high by 10 inches wide and have no glass. The backs are covered in brown paper and have twisted piano wire hangers. The frames have only very slight age wear, no chips or damage, and the stitchery is in good condition. Price is for the pair.
