This vintage open tankard or rounded mug type beer stein was probably made in Mid Century West Germany. It's decorated with a panoramic scene of a Swiss man or boy blowing an alpen horn, the peak of the Matterhorn, and a Swiss woman or girl in a big lacy bonnet holding a basket. All against a glossy cobalt blue background with colorful flowers in high relief and peach luster trim at the rim and base.
The stein is in excellent condition with no damage. It stands about 6-1/2 inches high and holds 24 ounces. Remains of an unidentifiable label are on the underside along with the incised letter R (possibly K), the number 6589, and stamped numbers 6 and 98.
