This is the bottom to the McCoy pottery "When Shadows Fall" cookie jar. The missing lid would have had a pair of seemingly non-matching, often garishly painted owls that simply didn't go with the bottom at all. I took the last picture from my McCoy book to show what I mean (to be clear, that picture is not the item I'm selling).
I think it works better as a planter or vase than a cookie jar with the incongruous owls top piece. The bottom is a version of the popular 1940s green and brown Rustic Pinecone line. The word Cookies is embossed on one side, on the other is the phrase "When Shadows Fall". The jar measures about 7 inches high by 8-1/2" wide and about 5 inches diameter front to back. There are no chips or cracks, but there is crazing to the bottom as shown. Marked McCoy USA.
