This beautiful vintage Asian lacquered wood jewelry box features an inlaid roses and hummingbird decoration made of carved soapstone on the lid. The box has beveled edges, solid brass hardware, and gold gilt decorative trim. It measures 12-3/8 by 8 by 4 inches high. The inside of the lid is covered in mauve Shantung silk, ruched around a diamond shape mirror. The removable 2-section divided tray and bottom are lined in the same silk fabric.
The jewelry box is in very good vintage condition. The soapstone carvings have no chips. There's only a single tiny chip to the high quality lacquer finish, just above the lid opening edge on the left corner (if you look closely you can see it in the second photo). There are some tiny, hair fine marks to the surface from normal use and age, nothing that approaches a scratch or disrupts the finish. The gold trim does have typical light wear, the worst being a missing 3/8" long strip to the lines on the upper edge of the lid. The interior bottom and tray have some faint scuffing from use but no stains or tears. The biggest issue is the dust that has collected over the years in the stone crevices. I used damp Q-tips and a soft cloth to gently clean but did no more than that for fear of damaging the lacquer.
