This boxed early 1930s paper maché composition angel Christmas tree top decoration was made for the George Borgfeldt Corporation, a New York importer of toys, dolls, and giftware. The angel kneels atop a composition globe heavily encrusted in beige mica and clear glitter, her arms folded in prayer, her head slightly bowed. She has heavy embossed silver (gold on back) foiled paper wings and wears a spiked crown or halo. The topper is a little over inches tall.
This type of tree top decoration didn't usually last a long time due to fragile materials but she's in excellent condition for being nearly 100 years old. The foil-covered crown or halo has minor creases as shown. The delicate wings are intact without tears. The paint is very good. The only issue is a small smudge of gold paint below the angel's chin. The original box is present.and in good condition with minor age wear. The original Borgfeldt label is missing. The lid has a very faint ink stamp that looks like Germany.
