An early 1950s miniature light set made in Italy with 10 pine cone gnomes, dwarfs or elves holding a candle topped by a mini light bulb. The elves have white mica snow frosted pine cone bodies, real cotton batting beards, and molded clay-like composition hand painted faces - note those toothy grins. Each one is different, and each has a different style or color of paper maché composition hat. The hats have wired loops so you can position them with hooks or wire on the tree branches - with wonderful faces like that, you don't want any of them facing the wall or the inside of the tree!
The overall length of the light string is about 18 feet with the gnomes spaced from about 10 to 12 inches apart. The plug and the thin, twisted wire cord are in excellent condition with no damage or wear. The lights all work and burn steadily (though of course I cannot guarantee how much longer they'll continue to work, given their age). A spare light bulb is included in the box. The gnomes are attached to the string simply by looping the cord strands over their candle arms. They tend to slip off - I'd secure them with a bit of thin wire to hold them in place. Or you can take the bulbs out of the sockets and thread the cords through the little holes so the candles rest atop the arms.
Considering the age and fragile nature, the light set is in super condition, clean with no issues other than the box lid - it's pretty mangled and has been taped together. This is truly a rare and special find for the vintage Christmas or pine cone elf collector.
