An uncommon large bead antique Christmas tree garland, made in Germany in the 1930s. There are 50 double pike mercury glass beads, just a shade under 1 inch diameter. They're painted with stripes and bands of pink, peach, yellow, and green.
The garland has been restrung onto a sturdy rayon blend cord. The length is about 6 feet long (beads only, not including extra string). The beads do have some paint wear and fading as well as small areas of darkening of the inner silvering, but there are no holes or cracks. Most of the pikes are still smooth, showing surprisingly few of the little chips that are common to old glass beads like this.
