A pair of unusual figural novelty salt and pepper shakers from 1930s Japan, made of hand painted carved bone. They're in the form of eagle totem poles. The 2 inch shakers have white Bakelite or Catalin shaker tops and are marked Japan in script on the bottoms. The porous bone bodies have a few stress lines (they don't go all the way through to the interiors) and the caps each have a single vertical crack.
