This Art Deco influenced Model 90 electric hot water kettle was made by Manning Bowman probably just after World War II, shortly after the company was acquired by McGraw Electric in 1941. The kettle is pictured in the book Art Deco Chrome by Jim Linz. It comes in its original box labeled "Manning Bowman Model 90 Automatic Hot Water Server". I heated water in it just to test that it is working properly (it is), otherwise I don't believe it was ever used.

The kettle has a gorgeous copper finish and dark brown Catalin base, handle, and lid finial. A brass plate reading Manning Bowman is riveted to the base under the kettle's spout. The heavy duty cord is still wrapped in its original coil and the informational and instruction brochure is attached to the handle. The box interior retains the original cardboard and heavy waxed paper packing material.

The kettle measures 7 inches high by 10 inches wide from spout to handle. It heats up fine and the glass eye at the base lights up red when the water reaches the proper hot temperature. There are of course no damage, dents, or scratches to the shiny copper finish, though there are just a few tiny pinpoint tarnish specks from 80 years of storage that should polish out. I have one of these kettles in my own collection and it still works perfectly. The quality and longevity of vintage American made appliances like this cannot be matched today, not to mention the beauty.
