I believe this vintage hand wrought silver washed copper bowl or dish is an ashtray. Made from thick copper, it measures 7-1/2 inches diameter by 1-1/4" deep. Five paisley or comma stroke shapes are embossed in high relief around the 1-1/2" rim. The interior bowl sides have vertical ribbing. There is some spotting from age and use in the bottom as shown. The bowl is marked only with the number 4 but is likely of Middle Eastern origin, perhaps Persian based on the paisley symbols.
